Lamb Champs, which was introduced last year, was once again a tremendous success.
More than 5,000 people tasted from 100 lambs to determine which farmer produced the most delicious lamb meat in South Africa.
Paul van Rooyen, who won with a Meatmaster Lamb, walked away with a prize of R50,000 and a trophy crafted by the sculptor Nic van Rensburg, valued at R80,000. Basie van Wyk’s Dorper came in second place, and Leon Struwig’s SA Vleismerino, representing S2 Boerdery, secured the third spot.

Lamb Champs 2023 was far more than just a competition; it was a family day filled with activities, including a beer tent, a play area for children, rugby on the big screen, and performances by various artists like Bobby van Jaarsveld, Appel, Juan Boucher, Neil Somers, and Adam Tas. Minki van der Westhuizen returned as this year’s master of ceremonies.
