Lamb Champs 2025 Kicks Off with Spitbraai, Flavour, and Excitement in the Northern Cape

Lamb Champs 2025 Kicks Off in the Northern Cape with Outstanding Participation and Top Winners!

The first of five official Lamb Champs competitions for 2025 kicked off today at the RPO Northern Cape’s “Wys jou Vleisfees” (Show Your Meat Festival) outside Kimberley. This historic start to the Lamb Champs season brought together farmers from across the region to compete in South Africa’s premier lamb competition.

Lamb Champs is an initiative by Saai aimed at celebrating local lamb production, rewarding excellence in meat quality, and reconnecting consumers with the farmers behind their food.

The judging process was conducted under strict criteria by independent judges, with a particular focus on meat quality, carcass ratio, and exceptional taste. After a day of careful evaluation, the winners were proudly announced.

First place was awarded to Lize Mans of Kakamas in the Northern Cape for her outstanding Dorper entry. Second place went to Tom Bissett from Hopetown with his impressive Meatmaster, while third place was awarded to Rudolph and Andre Viljoen from Williston, who entered with their Dorper.

In addition to recognition, the winner of this competition will have the opportunity to compete head-to-head with the winners of the other Lamb Champs 2025 regional rounds in the national final on 18 October 2025 at Nampo Alfa, Bothaville.

Pick n Pay, as the headline sponsor of Lamb Champs, has made it possible to elevate this initiative to new heights, connecting the entire value chain from farm to fork. Toyota, as category sponsor, further contributes to the empowerment of family farmers across South Africa.

The next Lamb Champs competition will take place on 26 July 2025 at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria, where 100 of South Africa’s top farmers will compete for a coveted spot in the national final.

Saai invites the public to attend these unique events where family farming, quality meat, and community celebration come together.
