Every family farm across South Africa will argue that their lamb is the most delicious. The farmers in
the Free State believe their merinos taste best but argue about the differences between Northern and
Southern Free State merino meat. Capetonians are adamant their Karoo lambs are king but can’t
agree whether the best come from the Williston, Carnarvon or Calvinia areas. The debate is still raging
and it’s time to declare a winner!
On the 29th of July 2023, Saai will present Lamb Champs 2023 at Loftus Versfeld. On this day, 100 family farmers from all over South Africa will have the opportunity to roast their very best lambs on the spit for the prestigious Lamb Champs title and the R50 000 prize. Lamb Champs 2023 will be even bigger than 2022, with double the amount of family farmers competing, which means more meat, more spectators, more artists and more fun!
Saai will also shoot a TV series of 10 episodes presented by the founder of Buffelsfontein Brandewyn, Meyer le Roux. In this series, which had about 300,000 to 400,000 viewers per episode last season, Saai will visit 1 farmer in each province and document what their sheep farming process looks like.
